Welcome to the first Image Matters Blog! We want to give you, our clients, former clients and the public, a place to check regularly for new information on enhancing your personal and professional image. Since we work on every aspect of image with people from all walks of life, you’ll find all kinds of topics here (from make-up ideas to tips for delivering a great presentation). But no matter what, everything we offer will be geared to help you look, sound or act more confident and more credible. Enjoy — and let us know your comments!
On Saturday, I’m speaking to a group of low-income and single mothers from Mother to Mother Ministries. This is not my typical audience of upwardly mobile corporate professionals. What from my regular image training will apply to these women who are struggling to pay their gas bills or find adequate child care? As it turns out, image fundamentals are the same for almost everyone….it’s all about gaining respect from the people we meet. And it starts first thing in the morning. Thinking back ten years ago when I had two kids in diapers, before Image Matters, and before I knew better, I let myself go. I mean I really let myself go. Ugh! The effort to bathe, groom, and get properly dressed when you’re wrangling kids – only to have drool on my shoulder within the first hour — seemed like a waste of energy. And who cares? Does it even matter?
Well, of course it matters… whether we are meeting the mechanic at the service station, attending a parent-teacher conference, or meeting with an important client, we each have the chance to increase our own worth and get more respect by paying attention to image details. So, do you get it going in the morning — every morning? Shower, shave, hair, skin, makeup (gals!), clothes that fit? Even on the weekends?…. now that’s a topic for another blog…
